Located in the heart of Lake County, Wickliffe is a charming city with a rich history and a thriving community of over 12,000 residents, as recorded in the 2020 census.
What began as Range 10, Township 9—a small piece of the Western Reserve’s vast three million acres—eventually grew into the City of Wickliffe. Moses Cleveland, an investor and Director of the Connecticut Land Company, played a pivotal role in surveying the Western Reserve, laying the foundation for Wickliffe’s development.
In 1817, the city’s first two settlers traveled by covered wagon from Haddam, Connecticut, to the Western Reserve. After initially settling at Cleveland Public Square, they moved west to a scenic knoll near the intersection of Lloyd Road and Euclid Avenue. This land became the roots of modern-day Wickliffe.
