Fear Free Grooming Maintenance Services

Gentle Grooming Maintenance In The Comfort Of Home

Keeping up with routine grooming can help your pet stay comfortable, clean, and healthy. We provide gentle, Fear Free grooming maintenance services in the comfort of your home, making the experience less stressful for pets who may feel anxious about traveling or visiting a traditional grooming salon.

Our services focus on basic grooming maintenance, including nail trims, sanitary trims, shave-downs, coat maintenance, and mat removal. We do not offer bathing, breed-specific styling, show cuts, or full-service salon grooming.

Using Fear Free handling techniques, positive reinforcement, and a relationship-based approach, we work at your pet’s pace to create a calm and supportive experience. Appointments are tailored to your pet’s comfort level, and pet parents are welcome to be present throughout the appointment for additional reassurance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to some of the most common questions pet parents ask about our grooming maintenance services. If you don't see your question here, or would like to discus your pet's unique care needs, please contact us. We'd be happy learn more about your pet(s) and how we can help.

Absolutely! Before any grooming services are provided, all new clients complete an Initial Consultation and Behavioral Assessment. This allows us to meet you and your pet, discuss your concerns, review your pet’s medical history and temperament, and create a grooming plan tailored to their needs. It also helps ensure your pet is comfortable with us before any hands-on grooming begins.

Ohio law requires cats (and dogs) to be vaccinated against rabies unless a veterinarian has provided a medical exemption. While indoor cats have a lower risk of exposure, accidents can happen. A cat may escape outdoors, encounter a bat that enters the home, or become frightened and bite or scratch during handling.

Because rabies is a serious and almost always fatal virus, current rabies vaccination records or a veterinarian-issued exemption letter are required before services can begin. This policy helps protect your cat, your family, and the pet care professionals working with them.

Most cats benefit from nail trims every 4–6 weeks, though the ideal schedule depends on age, activity level, and how quickly their nails grow. During your consultation, we can recommend a grooming schedule that fits your cat’s needs.

Many cats are uncomfortable having their paws handled, especially if they’ve had a stressful nail trim experience in the past. Whenever possible, we use a gradual, Fear Free approach to help your cat become more comfortable with the process. This may include slowly introducing grooming equipment, rewarding calm behavior with treats, gently handling their paws, and building positive associations over time. For some cats, this desensitization process can help make future nail trims less stressful.

However, every cat has limits. If a nail trim becomes too stressful for your cat or unsafe for anyone involved, we will stop and discuss alternative options with you. In some cases, your veterinarian may recommend anti-anxiety medication before future appointments to help reduce fear, anxiety, and stress. We are happy to work alongside your veterinarian to help determine the safest and most appropriate plan for your cat.

Yes! Cats who are overweight, senior, arthritic, or experiencing mobility challenges often have difficulty reaching certain areas of their body for routine grooming.

During your consultation, we’ll assess your cat’s needs and develop a maintenance grooming plan that may include nail trims, sanitary trims, mat prevention, and coat maintenance. Regular grooming can help keep your cat clean, comfortable, and feeling their best.

In many cases, yes. Matted fur can be uncomfortable and even painful for cats, so we understand the importance of addressing it promptly.

The grooming process depends on the severity of the matting, your cat’s coat type, and your cat’s comfort level. For heavily matted cats, the safest and most humane option is often shaving the mats rather than attempting to brush them out, which can be painful and may injure the skin.

Some cats tolerate mat removal well, while others may require multiple appointments to safely and gently remove all mats. During your consultation, we’ll evaluate your cat’s coat and discuss the best approach for their individual needs.

No. We do not administer sedation or prescription medications.

If your cat becomes extremely fearful, anxious, or stressed during grooming, we may recommend talking with your veterinarian about whether anti-anxiety medication may be appropriate. In some cases, a veterinarian may prescribe medication to be given prior to a grooming appointment to help your cat feel more comfortable.

For cats with severe matting or those unable to safely tolerate grooming in the home, your veterinarian may recommend performing the grooming procedure under sedation or anesthesia at the veterinary hospital. During your consultation, we’ll discuss your cat’s individual needs and help you determine whether in-home grooming or veterinary-assisted grooming is the safest and most appropriate option.

Many cats develop anxiety after a difficult grooming or veterinary experience. While we can’t erase those memories, we can work to create more positive associations moving forward.

As a Fear Free Certified Professional, I use a gentle, patient approach that focuses on your cat’s emotional well-being. Favorite treats, such as Churu, are often used to reward and distract during nail trims and grooming sessions. We move at your cat’s pace whenever possible and focus on making each experience as positive as we can.

Our goal is not just to complete the grooming service, but to help your cat feel safer and more comfortable with future appointments.
